A few pictures of our 2020 Christmas in quarantine. We zoom'ed with the Barnes side of the family and due to a possible exposure we had to change our outdoor Christmas with my side of the family to zoom as well. Mimi even packed up her Maison du Mason dinner and left it on our doorstep with the gifts!
Like so many things in 2020, we celebrated Thanksgiving alone. If I remember correctly, we did zoom calls with our families. It was weird, but I have to say we made the best of it and it actually was one of my favorite Thanksgivings. Fielder helped me a lot and really had fun making the dinner "fancy." We were home and it was very relaxing! (My first ever Thanksgiving dinner that I had to cook!) And yes, I already had up a Christmas tree
After Charlie passed away, we really did not plan to get another dog. The kids of course had other plans.
We eventually decided to get a kitten and were very excited! In fact we "gave" Claire this kitten for her birthday, bought all kinds of toys and things for him, but thank goodness we had not actually brought him home yet when we discovered...Fielder is allergic to cats.
We let him go to a friend's house that has 2 and he came home with his eyes almost swollen shut. (He had also been visiting the neighbor's outdoor cat since he was excited to soon be getting one.) We quickly made an appointment with an allergist and it was a very very sad day. Rob and I watched the spot on his back marked "cat" swell up immediately. We waited for the doctor to confirm it and he agreed it would not be smart to get a kitten. All of this led to a quick change of heart about getting another dog, and Rob had his heart set on a golden retriever. (And no one here is allergic to dogs!) I spent so many days scouring the internet for a golden to adopt or a puppy, but during the pandemic they were hard to find!
We eventually found a breeder that would be having a litter in October and we gave her a deposit. After the drama of the kitten situation, we decided to keep the puppy a secret. We would occasionally get to see cute pictures from the breeder! I ordered some things we would need and hid them in the attic.
We drove another 10 minutes and it was time to pick out our puppy! There were several to choose from, they all looked the same and we picked the one that gave us the most attention. He slept the entire way home! After some debate, we had a name. Meet Ollie!
Election year....It was a long wait to get the results...but they finally came through and we were so relieved!!
