Turkey Day(s)

We had a great Thanksgiving and got to celebrate several times! First up was Thanksgiving Day with the Barnes side of the family.

PoPa cooked a delicious turkey, Coral made my favorite stuffing, sweet potatoes, and mashed potatoes, and I brought cranberry relish and broccoli casserole. It was quite a feast!

Miss Picky Pickerson ate a roll and some freeze-dried corn for her dinner. Oh well, her loss.

After dinner, Claire helped clean up her mess.

Next in our celebrations, was a visit to Matt and Alison's house on Friday to celebrate Alison's birthday and share our many desserts left from Thanksgiving. (Claire had no problem feasting on some cake. With a mouth full, she told Uncle Jake "you got to chew it good and then you won't choke.")

Thanks to Alison's cousins Ali and Brayden, Claire got to play on this horse. She loved it, but didn't love sharing so much. I guess we need to work on that :-)

Last on the holiday circuit this year was the Mason Thanksgiving on Sunday. We enjoyed a delicious ham dinner with all our favorite sides. We have so much to be thankful for and it was wonderful to celebrate with everyone!

Marathon Mommy

After 6 months of training and 517 miles logged, I was ready for the Richmond Marathon! Our head coach told us to soak it all in and enjoy the miles so that when people ask what our time was we could say "I had a great time!" Well, I can say for sure that I had the time of my life! And my official time wasn't too bad either...4:35:24 in case you were wondering.

I had quite the cheering squad! Here's Claire hanging out in the stroller - hard to see, but there's Aunt Tara, Aunt Bradford, and Sam.

Uncle Matt and Aunt Alison came out with Katie! She slept through the whole thing, cow bells and all!

My parents and Andy with the famous flag (works wonders for finding them in a crowd) and the cowbells! I saw them 4 places along the course and then Rob headed to the finish line.

Here I am with Coach Shawn in the last mile. I had a smile on my face until about mile 24 or so and then it was all focus and determination. Once I turned the corner onto Cary Street, I saw Rob and teared up a bit, but then I couldn't stop grinning from ear to ear! What a feeling to cross that finish line!

A HUGE thank you to all my family and friends for their support. It was so awesome and encouraging to see you out there on the course. (Thanks Brooke!!) Especially thanks to Rob for all the hours I had to be away from home so that I could train. Luckily I have a very supportive husband because I've got "the bug" and can't wait to do it all again next year!

Plan Bee

Happy Halloween! Our "mommy, daddy, and baby" pumpkins on the front porch...

This year for Halloween, Claire and I headed over to her buddy Owen's house for a Halloween party and trick-or-treating with all her friends! We had SO much fun. After playing and eating dinner, we got all the kids in their costumes. I had a beautiful princess costume that my friend loaned me, but Claire wanted nothing to do with that. After several attempts, I decided it wasn't worth the fight and we moved on to Plan B - her costume from last year. She was excited to be a honey bee because Owen was also a bee.

Now we're all set to go trick-or-treating for the first time! I think I had more fun than Claire, but she loved seeing all the pumpkins and getting treats. She got the hang of saying "trick-or-treat" when we practiced, but usually clammed up when someone answered the door.

The first couple houses, she just busted on in and walked through the front door. One time a man gave her a lollipop so she pulled out a piece of candy from her bucket and put it in his - nice job sharing!

A few times I had to remind her that we couldn't eat the treats right then because they still had wrappers on them.

We really had a fun time! Rob was mad that he missed out to go to a UVA football game in which they lost!

Pumpkins, Parade, and PJs!

I've been so slack on the blog lately, but we've been doing some fun Halloween stuff around here and I finally got some pictures organized.

A couple weeks ago we went to the pumpkin patch with Aunt Alison and Cousin Katie. We had a great time! (To quote Alison, by a great time I mean "Katie was indifferent, Claire had a blast, and we spent more time trying to position a 2 year old and an infant for pictures than actually picking out the pumpkins!)

Last weekend Claire spent some time with Mimi and Papa and they took her to the neighborhood golf cart parade. Claire enjoyed sitting on the curb and watching the carts go by. One cart handed out these little foam Halloween cut-outs and they were a huge hit! We are still playing with them at home.

Mimi pulled out the dress-ups for Claire and I the she likes my old sunglasses without the lenses. (Recoginze those Mere?) She looks like she could be Harry Potter for Halloween.

Gotta Be Fair

Thursday night Rob and I went to the U2 concert in Charlottesville!!! Claire went to Mimi and Papa's house to spend the night and since we were doing something so fun, it only seemed fair to do something really fun with Claire! (ha ha)

So Mimi and Papa took their granddaughter to the State Fair! She had a ball! Her favorite thing (which is what she tells me about when I ask her what she did at the fair) was looking at the chicks.

There were lots of other animals to look at too.

Va Tech had a food stand and sold some delicious "Hokie milkshakes" - I loved these pictures so much I couldn't pick a favorite!

After looking at the animals, they headed over to the rides. They thought Claire would enjoy all the lights, but they weren't sure because it was really loud. She kept asking for hugs which usually means she's a little unsure, but when they were walking back to the car Claire said "that was so awesome!" I guess that means she liked it :-)

Thanks so much to Mimi and Papa for a fun night for Claire and letting us have a night out on the town!!

Birthday Party!

On Sunday, we had all the family over for a Birthday Brunch to celebrate Claire turning 2!

I made Sesame Street cupcakes (I copied my friend so I can't take all the credit) - I thought they turned out so cute!

Claire got so many nice gifts from everyone. The shopping cart with food was a big hit (Thanks Sally!) She was - and still is - obsessed with the banana and eggs.

This "kissing Elmo" is from Clay and Patti. She has been playing with him constantly - pushing him around in the shopping cart and having conversations with him. "Here you go Elmo. Back in the cart Elmo. That's a nice Elmo."

Uncle Matt and Aunt Alison gave Claire this Elmo chair. Here she is cautiously testing it out.

In this picture, Claire is riding on her lion from Uncle Andy and Aunt Tara (of course she's got that banana). When we got her to sit on it, she said "it's not workin!" She loves the lion and feeds him the different foods from her shopping cart.

Here she is taking her puppy dog from Uncle Jake for a walk on the piano. I'm not sure why but he always walks on the piano??

She got so many nice things - gift certificates to Inflation Nation and Romp N Roll, lots of fall clothes, a UVA teddy bear, tons of new music (YAY!), a Dressy Bessy, and a new pair of shoes. Thanks so much to everyone!!!

Last, but not least - the cookies I made for "favors." It was my first attempt at decorated sugar cookies. They're not perfect, but they tasted great! This is my new hobby, so I'll be practicing alot before Christmas time :-)
